Welcome to Our New Children's Librarian
Our new part-time children's librarian Annalise Ammer wasn't a confident reader when she was a child. "My mother would read books to me," she says, "and when I found a book I could read myself, I'd read it over and over." One of those books was Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. She also loved books in the Henry and Mudge and Arthur series.
Today Annalise prefers sci-fi and fantasy. Her favorite book is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, and she's a fan of the Game of Thrones books by George R.R. Martin. When Annalise isn't working with us, she works with teens at the Sully Branch Library in the city. She says her work there has shown her "that the library is a space that performs a multitude of functions--library, classroom, playroom, and home." She wants everyone who visits to feel safe, happy, creative, and empowered.
Our children's program attendance has soared at HPL over the last few years, so Annalise's primary tasks here will be to take on some storytimes and school-aged programs to help meet demand. She'll also be working the information desk and ordering children's movies, music, videogames, and chapter books. When you see her, be sure to say hello!
