Have You Seen These Movies?
Last month I saw two movies, Brooklyn and Carol. Weeks later, I'm still thinking about the women in these films. Both movies are based on books, Brooklyn and The Price of Salt. They are both set in New York City in the 1950’s. Each includes a department store clerk, although the jobs mean different things to each employee. And both give us young women deciding between two very different worlds. Even with all these comparisons, they are distinct. And I loved the tones, the costumes, the scenery, the history, and the stories both films told. They are tender and heartbreaking and real. –Jen Barth, Pop Culture Librarian
