Ringing in 2008

Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were filled with family, friends, and good times!  This is also that time of year when many of us make promises to ourselves – resolutions to perfect our bodies, families, minds, and businesses - and some of us carry through with these promises. The Henrietta Public Library recently acquired some new DVDs to help you reach these goals:

Muscle Mile OneLosing weight, toning up your body, or just eating better leads the list of New Year resolutions for many of us.  Exercise DVDs are one way to accomplish this and we have workout programs that include Pilates, walking, balance balls and dancing.  Leslie Sansone has been a proponent of walking with her Walk Away the Pounds series. Her 20 minute Muscle Mile One DVD uses brisk walking and weights to bring back muscle in the upper body. Building muscle reduces the flab, speeds up metabolism and burns the fat. Balance Ball for Weight LossBalance Ball for Weight Loss with workout instructor Suzanne Deason is a 55 minute DVD uses Pilates inspired routines with nutrition hints to help with calorie burning balance ball exercises to trim abs, glutes and thighs.  The publishers of Prevention magazine have a DVD called The Abs Advantage with trainer Chris Freytag which includes four twelve minute routines to flatten your abdominal muscles. Imagine, only 12 minutes of hard exercise to a new you!  The “Pilates for Life” series also has a twenty minute workout for beginners and intermediates called Pilates for Abs and Butt with Amy Brown. Flexibility, strength, and aerobics are the three main topics of the Keeping Fit in Your Keeping Fit in Your 50s50s DVD set.  As women age, they especially need exercise to keep up their strength and muscle tone and to head off the problems of osteoporosis. The three DVDs in this set will give exercise tips for achieving maximum strength, how exercise helps with the naturally occurring slower metabolism in women, as well as exercise routines using Pilates and yoga and aerobics all designed to keep our bodies fit.

Cardio Dance Slim DownFinally, with the popularity of ABC TV’s “Dancing with the Stars”, dancing has found a new audience of fans; dancing is not only fun, but great exercise too!  The Henrietta Public Library will soon be adding Cardio Dance Slim Down master instructor Allie DelRio Pointer showing us dance-inspired low impact moves to get your entire body in shape with traditional dance steps and more!  With 45 minutes of energizing routines your body will firm up with fun dance moves.  When you’ve limbered up with all the above exercise now learn to dance with Vicki Regan and Ron DeVito You Can Dance - Tangoon You Can Dance: Swing, Tango, and Waltz.  Each sixty minute DVD starts with the basic moves for each dance and carefully demonstrates for both men and women. How impressed your friends will be at the next wedding when you and your partner step out on the dance floor with all the right body, arm and feet combinations of the jitterbug, the passionate tango or the beautiful waltz!

As always come on into the library and check out these new items in our audio-visual section!
