Digital Downloading

Digital downloads are coming to the Henrietta Public Library by way of the Monroe County Library System’s subscription to the OverDrive® company. Many public libraries throughout the country are enjoying this FREE service for their patrons; all you need is a PC with Windows Media Player, and your MCLS library card.

Starting in June patrons will be able to download unabridged and abridged bestselling adult novels and non-fiction, including language instruction and biographies. The initial 500 titles are being selected for the site by a committee of MCLS adult service librarians.  Eventually the service will include young adult and children’s titles.  Patrons will need to log on to the MCLS OverDrive® website with their valid library card from their home computer. They may then download their book to a compatible phone, PDA, or mp3 player. Unfortunately, Apple’s iPOD and a few other players will not be compatible with OverDrive®.  Patrons may also burn their book to compact discs or listen from the files downloaded to their PC.  The OverDrive® service checks the book out to the patron’s account for three weeks. There are no overdue charges as the item is returned automatically to the OverDrive® library after the 21 day loan period.  The user-friendly website offers a tutorial for new users as well as advanced searching techniques.  Patrons will also be able to place holds on titles with a valid library card.

New changes are coming once again to the Henrietta Public Library with OverDrive’s® digital downloads; an easy and innovative way to “read” the newest bestseller!
