Audio Books

The Henrietta Public Library strives to provide a variety of audio books on compact disc for our patrons.  Our patrons enjoy mysteries, thrillers, non-fiction and romances. With the many unabridged titles from which to choose, it is difficult to select something for everyone’s taste.

We have recently received the following titles:

Hannibal RisingMany of you are familiar with the ghastly story of Hannibal Lector as an adult; now Thomas Harris reads the tale of the lonely and abused Hannibal as a child in post-WWII in Hannibal Rising. Certainly our pasts helped to mold our personalities – this grisly tale will tell of the demonic Lector’s childhood in a way fans of Silence of the Lambs will enjoy.

HideIn Hide, by Lisa Gardner, the past and a cold case haunts Bobby Dodge and a nightmare with six corpses resurrects a seemingly dead killer. Aptly read by Maggie-Med Read, Gardner thrills her readers with a mystery and cast of characters only Gardner can write!

StalemateOur many fans of the CSI-type novel will want to listen to the newest Eve Duncan forensic thriller by Iris Johansen, Stalemate.  Eve Duncan is off to a Colombian jungle to identify a skull given to her by one of the world’s most dangerous criminals. She leaves behind everyone in a bargain with evil and discovers a painful mystery of her past.

Qwilleran and his sleuthing cats are out to solve another crime in The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers by Lilian Jackson Braun. Wonderfully read by George Guidall, Qwilleran and companion Polly are off to Paris while something is afoot in Pickax. How will Yum-Yum and Koko figure out this mystery?

19 MinutesMany of Jodi Picoult’s novels center on controversial contemporary situations. Her newest, 19 Minutes, tells of a small town caught up in a school shooting. As always Picoult uses fiction to make us think. This time a teenager’s life and the justice system are juxtaposed in a riveting drama.

There are many other titles on compact disc waiting for you at HPL. Come July be looking for the last in the Harry Potter series: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which will be available on compact disc and cassette!

Finding Audio Books

It is very easy to find audiobook titles, authors or readers in the Everybody's Catalog system. Simply type in your title and add the word sound to your search string. You may even want to add the word abridged (edited version) or unabridged (full-length version) to your search string if you are looking for a specific version. Be sure to place a hold on your favorite audio books! Many of our new titles never get back to the shelf before someone else grabs it!
